When you visit our Sandy office for a cleaning, we’ll start with a general examination of your teeth, gums, the tissue inside your mouth, and your jaw. We’re looking at the appearance of your teeth and mouth in general as well as anything unusual, such as inflammation of the gums, sores, cavities, and other signs of tooth decay. We may also take X-rays of your teeth and mouth to determine if there are any issues that can’t be seen during the initial exam.

Your dental cleaning will include removing any build-up of tartar and plaque, which is often the most uncomfortable part of the appointment. Again, we do our best to make sure you are as comfortable as possible — just let us know if we need to stop or pause. Your hygienist will also complete a thorough brushing using a high-powered brush and a professional toothpaste. The appointment will finish with flossing and rinsing your mouth.

Dental cleanings should be done twice a year, so be sure to schedule your next appointment when the cleaning is completed.
